How to Replace Mavic 3 Gimbal Yaw Motor

The Yaw (Y-axis) motor on the Mavic 3 series controls left-right pan rotation of the gimbal. When it fails, you'll notice the gimbal can no longer hold a steady pan position, or you'll see a "gimbal motor overloaded" error specifically on the yaw axis. Step-by-Step Replacement

Step 1 — Power off and remove the battery
Always power off completely and remove the battery before disassembly.

Step 2 — Remove the gimbal protector
Slide off the rubber gimbal guard and inspect for visible crash damage.

Step 3 — Remove the front shell
Unscrew the underside screws and carefully pry open the front shell with a plastic tool.

Step 4 — Locate the yaw motor
The yaw motor is the largest of the three gimbal motors, located at the base of the gimbal assembly where it connects to the drone body. It controls the full left-right rotation of the gimbal.

Step 5 — Disconnect the yaw motor signal cable
Lift the ZIF connector tab and slide the signal cable out. Note the routing path carefully.

Step 6 — Remove the yaw motor
Unscrew the 3–4 mounting screws. Lift the motor out of its bracket. If it resists, check for a retaining clip.

Step 7 — Install the new yaw motor
Seat the new motor into the bracket, align the mounting holes, and secure with screws. Do not overtighten.

Step 8 — Reconnect the signal cable
Route the cable along the original path and insert into the ZIF connector. Lock the tab firmly.

Step 9 — Reassemble and calibrate
Reattach the front shell. Reinstall the battery, power on, and run gimbal auto-calibration before flying.
