Mavic 3 Gimbal Camera Lens Glass Replacement Guide

Mavic 3 Gimbal Camera Lens Glass Replacement Guide

The Mavic 3 features a Hasselblad-tuned camera with a precision optical lens. The outermost lens glass element protects the internal optics from dust, moisture, and impact. A cracked, scratched, or shattered lens glass causes blurry footage, lens flare, or dark spots in the image. Replacing the lens glass restores full optical performance without replacing the entire camera assembly.

Symptoms of a Damaged Lens Glass

  • Blurry or soft footage that autofocus cannot correct
  • Visible crack, chip, or scratch on the lens
  • Dark spot or shadow in the image
  • Lens flare or ghosting in bright conditions
  • Water or condensation inside the lens after impact

Lens Glass vs Full Camera Assembly

If only the outer lens glass is damaged (no internal optical damage), replacing the lens glass element (AT00028) is sufficient and significantly cheaper than replacing the full gimbal camera assembly. If the image sensor or internal optics are damaged, a full assembly replacement may be needed.

Tools You'll Need

  • Lens spanner wrench or rubber friction tool
  • Plastic pry tool
  • Tweezers
  • Isopropyl alcohol and lens cleaning cloth
  • Replacement lens glass element
  • Clean, dust-free workspace

Step-by-Step Replacement

Step 1 — Power off and remove the battery.

Step 2 — Remove the gimbal protector. Slide off the rubber gimbal guard.

Step 3 — Remove the lens outer frame ring. Use a lens spanner or rubber friction tool to unscrew the outer frame ring (AT00032) counter-clockwise. This ring holds the lens glass in place.

Step 4 — Remove the damaged lens glass. Carefully lift the lens glass element out of the housing using tweezers. Do not touch the internal optics.

Step 5 — Clean the lens housing. Use isopropyl alcohol and a lint-free cloth to clean the lens seat. Remove any glass fragments carefully.

Step 6 — Install the new lens glass. Place the new lens glass element into the housing. Ensure it sits flat and centered.

Step 7 — Reinstall the outer frame ring. Screw the frame ring back on clockwise. Tighten firmly but do not overtighten — excessive force can crack the new glass.

Step 8 — Test image quality. Reinstall the battery, power on, and take test footage. Check for sharpness, no dark spots, and no flare.

Tips for Optical Repairs

  • Work in a dust-free environment — dust on the sensor or internal optics will show in footage
  • Never touch the internal lens elements with bare fingers
  • If dust gets inside during replacement, use a sensor blower (not compressed air) to remove it
  • After replacement, shoot a test image against a plain white surface to check for spots or uneven focus
