Mini 4 Pro Gimbal Camera Assembly Replacement
The Mini 4 Pro packs a powerful 3-axis stabilized gimbal camera into a sub-249g frame. Despite its compact size, the gimbal assembly is a precision component that can be damaged by crashes, hard landings, or rough handling. When the camera assembly fails, the most effective fix is a full gimbal camera assembly replacement rather than attempting to repair individual internal components.
When to Replace the Full Gimbal Camera Assembly
- Cracked or shattered camera lens
- Gimbal camera shows black screen after a crash
- Severe gimbal wobble that calibration cannot fix
- Physical damage to the camera housing or sensor
- Water ingress into the camera module
If only the downward vision sensor is faulty (hover instability, no ground detection), that is a separate component — see Downward Vision Sensor Module with Flex Cable.
Tools You'll Need
- Phillips screwdriver (PH000)
- Plastic pry tool
- Tweezers
- Replacement 3-axis gimbal camera assembly compatible with Mini 4 Pro (SKU: SKU120)
- Clean, well-lit workspace
Step-by-Step Replacement
Step 1 — Power off and remove the battery
Ensure the drone is fully powered off. Remove the battery before starting any disassembly.
Step 2 — Remove the gimbal protector and front shell
Remove the rubber gimbal guard. Use a plastic pry tool to carefully separate the front shell of the drone body. There are typically 4 screws on the underside holding the shell together.
Step 3 — Disconnect the gimbal flex cables
The gimbal assembly connects to the main board via 1–2 flex ribbon cables. Lift the ZIF connector tabs and slide the cables out gently. Note the cable routing for reassembly.
Step 4 — Remove the gimbal mounting screws
The gimbal assembly is secured to the front frame with 2–3 screws. Remove these and carefully lift the entire gimbal camera assembly out of the frame.
Step 5 — Install the new assembly
Place the new gimbal camera assembly into the frame. Align the mounting holes and secure with the screws. Do not overtighten.
Step 6 — Reconnect the flex cables
Route the flex cables along the original path and insert them into the ZIF connectors. Lock the connector tabs firmly.
Step 7 — Reassemble the shell
Reattach the front shell and tighten all screws. Reinstall the battery.
Step 8 — Power on and calibrate
Power on the drone and run gimbal auto-calibration from the app. Check the camera feed for a clear, stable image before flying.
Tips for a Successful Repair
- Handle the new gimbal assembly by the frame, not the camera lens or motors
- Do not power on the drone with the gimbal disconnected — this can cause motor errors
- If the camera image is clear but the gimbal still wobbles, check that all mounting screws are tight and the vibration dampers are seated correctly
- Run a full gimbal calibration and a short hover test before any serious flight
