Mini 4 Pro Vision Sensor Module Replacement Guide

Mini 4 Pro Vision Sensor Module Replacement Guide

The Mini 4 Pro features a comprehensive vision system including forward, backward, upward, and downward obstacle sensing. These sensors enable APAS (Advanced Pilot Assistance System) obstacle avoidance and precise hovering. When a sensor module fails, the drone disables obstacle avoidance and may struggle to hover accurately indoors.

Symptoms of a Failed Vision Sensor

  • "Obstacle avoidance unavailable" warning
  • Specific direction sensor error in the app
  • Drone drifts indoors or cannot hold position without GPS
  • Downward sensor error causing unstable low-altitude hover
  • Vision positioning system disabled

Two Key Sensor Modules for Mini 4 Pro

The Mini 4 Pro has two main vision sensor assemblies:

  • Downward Vision Sensor — handles ground detection and low-altitude hover stability. Replace with SKU SKU00106.
  • Front & Rear Vision Sensor (7-in-1 Butterfly Flex Cable) — handles forward, backward, and upward obstacle sensing. Replace with SKU SKU108.

Tools You'll Need

  • Phillips screwdriver (PH000)
  • Plastic pry tool
  • Tweezers
  • Replacement sensor module (SKU00106 or SKU108 depending on the failed sensor)
  • Clean, well-lit workspace

Downward Vision Sensor Replacement (SKU00106)

Step 1 — Power off and remove the battery.

Step 2 — Remove the bottom shell. Unscrew the underside screws and carefully separate the bottom shell. The downward vision sensor is mounted on the underside of the drone body.

Step 3 — Disconnect the sensor flex cable. Lift the ZIF connector tab and slide the cable out.

Step 4 — Remove the sensor module. Unscrew the 2 mounting screws and lift the sensor out.

Step 5 — Install the new sensor. Seat the new module, secure with screws, and reconnect the flex cable.

Step 6 — Reassemble and test. Reattach the shell, power on, and verify the downward sensor is active in the app.

Front & Rear Vision Sensor Replacement (SKU108)

Step 1 — Power off and remove the battery.

Step 2 — Remove the front and top shell. The 7-in-1 butterfly flex cable connects multiple sensors across the drone body. Full shell removal is required.

Step 3 — Trace the butterfly cable. The cable branches to the front sensors, rear sensors, and upward sensors. Disconnect all ZIF connectors carefully.

Step 4 — Remove the old cable assembly. Lift the cable out of its routing channels. Note the exact path for reinstallation.

Step 5 — Install the new cable assembly. Route the new cable along the same path. Connect all ZIF connectors and lock the tabs.

Step 6 — Reassemble and test. Reattach all shells, power on, and verify all obstacle avoidance directions are active in the app.
