EVO II Pro Gimbal Motor Repair Guide

The EVO II Pro is a professional-grade drone featuring a 6K camera on a 3-axis stabilized gimbal. Its gimbal motors are precision brushless units that control Yaw, Pitch, and Roll stabilization. When a motor fails, the result is unstable footage, gimbal errors, or complete loss of stabilization on one axis.

This guide covers how to diagnose a faulty gimbal motor on the EVO II Pro and replace it correctly.

Symptoms of a Failed Gimbal Motor

  • Gimbal drifts or shakes on one specific axis
  • Gimbal motor overload error in the Autel Sky app
  • Gimbal drops to one side on power-on
  • Unusual noise (grinding or clicking) from the gimbal
  • Footage unstable on one axis despite calibration

Diagnosing Which Motor Has Failed

Power on the drone and observe the gimbal carefully:

  • Yaw (Y-axis) — left/right pan is unstable or unresponsive
  • Pitch (P-axis) — up/down tilt is unstable or the camera droops forward/backward
  • Roll (R-axis) — horizon is not level, camera tilts to one side

The motor bracket shield protects the Yaw and Roll motors from impact. If the shield is cracked or deformed after a crash, inspect the motors underneath for damage.

Tools You'll Need

  • Phillips screwdriver (PH000)
  • Plastic pry tool
  • Tweezers
  • Replacement gimbal motor bracket shield for EVO II Pro 6K (SKU00129)
  • IMU module if flight stability is also affected (SKU00127 for EVO II V2 series)
  • Clean, static-free workspace

Step-by-Step Motor Replacement

Step 1 — Power off and remove the battery
Fully power off the drone and remove the battery before any disassembly.

Step 2 — Remove the gimbal protector
Remove the rubber gimbal guard and inspect the gimbal visually for physical damage.

Step 3 — Remove the motor bracket shield
If the Yaw or Roll motor is affected, first remove the motor bracket shield by unscrewing its retaining screws. This shield protects the motors and must be removed to access them.

Step 4 — Disconnect the motor signal cable
Each motor has a dedicated signal cable. Lift the ZIF connector tab and slide the cable out. Note the routing carefully.

Step 5 — Remove the failed motor
Unscrew the motor mounting screws (typically 3 per motor). Lift the motor out of its bracket carefully.

Step 6 — Install the replacement motor
Seat the new motor into the bracket. Align the mounting holes and secure with the screws. Do not overtighten.

Step 7 — Reconnect the signal cable
Route the signal cable along the original path and insert into the ZIF connector. Lock the tab firmly.

Step 8 — Reinstall the bracket shield
Reinstall the motor bracket shield. This shield is important for protecting the motors from future impact damage.

Step 9 — Reassemble and calibrate
Reattach all covers and reinstall the battery. Power on and run gimbal calibration from the Autel Sky app. Verify stable footage on all axes before flying.

Additional Notes for EVO II V2 Series

If your drone is an EVO II Pro V2, EVO II Dual 640T V2, or EVO II RTK V2 and you are also experiencing flight instability (not just gimbal issues), the IMU module may also need replacement. The IMU for the V2 series is a separate component from the gimbal motors.
