The arm axis hinge is one of the most mechanically stressed components on a folding drone. Every time you unfold and fold the arms, the hinge absorbs the load. After a crash or years of use, hinges can crack, become loose, or seize entirely. A damaged arm hinge affects flight stability and can cause motor vibration, arm wobble, or even arm failure mid-flight.

Step-by-Step Arm Axis Replacement
Step 1 — Power off and remove the battery
Always start with the drone fully powered off and battery removed.
Step 2 — Identify the damaged arm
Fold and unfold each arm individually to identify which hinge is faulty. Mark it with a small piece of tape so you don't lose track during disassembly.
Step 3 — Remove the arm shell
Most drone arms have a two-piece shell (top and bottom). Remove the screws along the arm and carefully separate the shell halves using a plastic pry tool.
Step 4 — Disconnect the motor cable
The motor cable runs through the arm. Carefully disconnect it from the ESC or main board connector before removing the arm. Note the cable routing.
Step 5 — Remove the hinge screws
The arm axis hinge is secured to the drone body with 2–4 screws. Remove these and slide the arm assembly out of the body hinge socket.
Step 6 — Install the new hinge
Slide the new arm axis hinge into the body socket. Align the screw holes and secure firmly. The arm should fold and unfold smoothly with a positive click at the open position.
Step 7 — Reconnect the motor cable
Route the motor cable through the arm channel and reconnect to the main board. Ensure there is no tension or pinching on the cable when the arm is folded.
Step 8 — Reassemble the arm shell
Reattach the arm shell halves and tighten all screws evenly.
Step 9 — Test before flying
Fold and unfold the arm several times to confirm smooth operation. Power on the drone and check for any motor or ESC errors before flying.
Important Safety Note
A loose or cracked arm hinge is a flight safety risk. Do not fly with a damaged hinge — arm failure mid-flight can result in a crash and potential injury. Replace damaged hinges before the next flight.
