How to Replace Mavic 3 GPS Module

The Mavic 3 relies on a GPS/GNSS module for accurate positioning, return-to-home, and waypoint missions. When the GPS module fails, the drone cannot lock onto satellites, loses positioning accuracy, or refuses to take off in GPS mode. This guide covers how to diagnose and replace the GPS module and its interconnect cable on the Mavic 3.

GPS Module vs GPS Cable — Diagnosing the Issue

Before replacing the module, check the interconnect cable first. A damaged cable (AT00027) is more common than a failed module and is cheaper to replace. If replacing the cable does not resolve the issue, replace the full GPS module.

Step-by-Step GPS Cable Replacement (AT00027)

Step 1 — Power off and remove the battery.

Step 2 — Remove the top shell. The GPS module is located in the top of the drone body. Unscrew the top shell screws and carefully lift the shell.

Step 3 — Locate the GPS interconnect cable. The cable runs from the GPS module (mounted on the top shell or upper body) to the main board connector.

Step 4 — Disconnect the old cable. Lift the ZIF connector tabs at both ends and slide the cable out.

Step 5 — Install the new cable. Route along the original path and connect both ends. Lock the ZIF tabs firmly.

Step 6 — Reassemble and test. Reattach the shell, power on outdoors, and check satellite count in the app.

Step 1 — Power off and remove the battery.

Step 2 — Remove the top shell as described above.

Step 3 — Disconnect the GPS cable from the module.

Step 4 — Remove the GPS module mounting screws (typically 2–3 screws). Lift the module out carefully.

Step 5 — Install the new GPS module. Seat it in position, secure with screws, and reconnect the cable.

Step 6 — Reassemble and test outdoors. Power on in an open area and verify satellite count reaches 10+ within 60 seconds.

Tips

  • Always test GPS outdoors — buildings block satellite signals and will give false low-count readings
  • After GPS module replacement, perform a compass calibration before flying
  • If satellite count is good but positioning is inaccurate, the compass sensor cable (AT00026) may also need inspection
