How to Replace Mavic 4 Pro ESC Board Module

The ESC (Electronic Speed Controller) board on the Mavic 4 Pro manages power delivery to each brushless motor, controlling speed and direction. A failed ESC board causes motor errors, erratic flight behavior, or complete motor failure on one or more arms. This guide covers how to diagnose and replace the ESC board module.

ESC Board vs Motor Failure — How to Tell the Difference

Before replacing the ESC board, rule out a motor failure first. Swap the motor cable to a known-good ESC channel. If the motor works on another channel, the ESC board is the issue. If the motor still fails, the motor itself needs replacement.

  • Plastic pry tool

  • Replacement ESC board module
  • Anti-static mat or wrist strap (recommended)
  • Clean, well-lit workspace

Step-by-Step Replacement

Step 1 — Power off and remove the battery
Fully power off and remove the battery. Wait 60 seconds for capacitors to discharge before opening the drone.

Step 2 — Remove the outer shell
Unscrew the underside screws and carefully separate the drone shell. The ESC board is located inside the main body.

Step 3 — Locate the ESC board
The ESC board is typically mounted near the center of the drone body, connected to the motor cables from each arm and to the main flight controller board.

Step 4 — Disconnect all cables
Disconnect the motor phase cables (3 wires per motor), the power input cable, and any signal cables connecting to the flight controller. Label or photograph the connections before removal.

Step 5 — Remove the ESC board
Unscrew the board mounting screws and carefully lift the ESC board out. Avoid bending or flexing the board.

Step 6 — Install the new ESC board
Place the new ESC board in position. Secure with the mounting screws. Do not overtighten.

Step 7 — Reconnect all cables
Reconnect the motor phase cables, power cable, and signal cables in the correct order. Refer to your photographs from Step 4.

Step 8 — Reassemble and test
Reattach the shell and reinstall the battery. Power on and run motor diagnostics in the app. Spin each motor individually to confirm correct operation before flying.

Important Safety Notes

  • Always discharge capacitors before working near the ESC board — residual charge can cause component damage or injury
  • Use an anti-static mat when handling the ESC board to prevent electrostatic damage
  • After ESC replacement, perform a full motor calibration before the first flight
