The Matrice 30T is an enterprise drone equipped with a zoom camera, wide camera, and thermal camera on a single 3-axis stabilized gimbal. The gimbal signal cable carries video and control data between the camera payload and the main aircraft. A damaged cable causes image dropout, camera errors, or complete loss of video feed from one or more cameras.

Diagnosing the Cable Before Replacement

Use the gimbal cable test board (BZ00005) to verify the cable is the issue before disassembly. Connect the cable to the test board and check for signal continuity. A broken cable will show no signal on the affected channel.

Step-by-Step Replacement

Step 1 — Power off and remove the battery
Fully power off the drone and remove the intelligent flight battery before starting.

Step 2 — Detach the gimbal payload
Release the payload locking mechanism and detach the gimbal from the aircraft. Place on a clean, padded surface.

Step 3 — Open the payload housing
Remove the upper and middle shell assembly screws to access the internal cable routing. The gimbal signal cable runs from the camera module through the payload housing to the aircraft connector.

Step 4 — Disconnect the old cable
Lift the ZIF connector tabs at both ends of the cable and slide it out carefully. Note the routing path.

Step 5 — Install the new cable
Route the new cable along the original path. Insert both ends into their ZIF connectors and lock the tabs firmly.

Step 6 — Verify with test board
Before reassembly, connect the new cable to the test board to confirm signal continuity on all channels.

Step 7 — Reassemble and test
Reattach the payload housing and reinstall on the aircraft. Power on and verify all camera feeds are active in the app.

Tips for Enterprise Drone Cable Repair

  • The Matrice 30T carries three camera channels — test all channels after replacement, not just the one that failed
  • Inspect the cable connector on the aircraft side as well — a bent pin on the aircraft connector can cause the same symptoms
  • After reassembly, run a full payload calibration before the next mission
