Matrice 350 RTK Brushless Arm Motor Replacement Guide
The Matrice 350 RTK is the successor to the Matrice 300 RTK, offering improved payload capacity and flight performance for enterprise operations. Like its predecessor, it uses high-torque brushless arm motors that can fail due to crash damage, bearing wear, or electrical faults. This guide covers how to replace a failed arm motor on the Matrice 350 RTK.
Symptoms of a Failed Arm Motor
- Motor error code in the app (specific motor number)
- One motor fails to spin on startup
- Drone tilts or cannot achieve stable hover
- Unusual vibration or grinding noise from one arm
- Motor overheating warning on one arm
Compatible Parts
- Brushless Arm Motor Compatible with Matrice 350 RTK — SKU SKU00017 / SKU00018
Tools You'll Need
- Phillips screwdriver (PH1)
- Hex key set (1.5mm, 2mm)
- Threadlocker (medium strength)
- Replacement arm motor (confirm CW or CCW)
- Clean, stable workspace
CW vs CCW — Identifying the Correct Motor
The Matrice 350 RTK uses both clockwise (CW) and counter-clockwise (CCW) motors. Check the motor position in the aircraft manual or the marking on the motor bell to confirm which type you need before ordering.
Step-by-Step Replacement
Step 1 — Power off and remove all batteries. The Matrice 350 RTK uses dual batteries. Remove both and wait 60 seconds.
Step 2 — Remove the propeller. Unscrew the propeller from the failed motor.
Step 3 — Access the motor cable. Remove the arm cover to access the motor phase cable connector inside the arm.
Step 4 — Disconnect the motor cable. Disconnect the 3-wire phase cable from the ESC connector.
Step 5 — Remove the motor mounting screws. Remove the 4 mounting screws (M2.5) and lift the motor off the arm mount.
Step 6 — Install the replacement motor. Apply medium-strength threadlocker to the mounting screws. Place the new motor on the mount and tighten the screws evenly.
Step 7 — Reconnect the motor cable. Connect the 3-phase cable. If the motor spins in the wrong direction after testing, swap any two of the three phase wires.
Step 8 — Reinstall the propeller. Reattach the correct propeller (CW or CCW) and tighten securely.
Step 9 — Test on the ground. Power on and run motor diagnostics. Spin each motor individually to confirm correct direction and smooth operation before flying.
Post-Replacement Calibration
- Perform compass calibration after motor replacement
- Perform IMU calibration if the drone was involved in a crash
- Run a hover test at low altitude before any mission
