Matrice 4T Gimbal Camera Payload Housing Replacement Guide

The Matrice 4T gimbal camera payload uses a two-piece housing: a front faceplate and a rear enclosure back cover. These structural shells protect the internal camera modules, motors, and cables from environmental damage. After a crash or impact, the housing can crack or shatter, exposing internal components to dust, moisture, and further damage. Replacing the housing restores protection without requiring a full payload replacement.

Step-by-Step Housing Replacement

Step 1 — Power off and remove the battery.

Step 2 — Detach the payload from the aircraft. Release the payload locking mechanism and detach the gimbal payload. Place on a clean, padded surface.

Step 3 — Remove the damaged housing piece. Identify whether the front faceplate (AT00035) or rear enclosure (AT00036) is damaged. Remove the retaining screws from the damaged piece.

Step 4 — Carefully separate the housing. Use a plastic pry tool to gently separate the housing from the internal assembly. Do not force it — internal cables may be routed along the housing walls.

Step 5 — Disconnect any cables attached to the housing. Some cables may be clipped or routed along the inside of the housing. Disconnect them carefully before fully removing the housing piece.

Step 6 — Install the new housing piece. Position the new faceplate or rear cover over the internal assembly. Reconnect any cables that were attached to the housing.

Step 7 — Secure with screws. Tighten the retaining screws evenly. Do not overtighten — the housing is plastic and screw bosses can strip.

Step 8 — Reattach the payload and test. Reattach the payload to the aircraft. Power on and verify all cameras are active and the gimbal initializes correctly.

Tips for Enterprise Payload Repair

  • Replace both front and rear housing at the same time if both are damaged — mismatched housing pieces can cause fit issues
  • Inspect internal cables for damage while the housing is open — a crash that breaks the housing often damages cables too
  • After reassembly, run a full payload calibration before the next mission
