The Mavic 3 uses an infrared sensor on the bottom shell for precise altitude measurement and low-altitude hover stability. Step-by-Step Replacement
Step 1 — Power off and remove the battery.
Step 2 — Inspect the sensor glass. Locate the infrared sensor window on the bottom shell. Confirm it is cracked, scratched, or cloudy.
Step 3 — Remove the bottom shell. Unscrew the bottom shell screws and carefully separate the shell from the body.
Step 4 — Remove the old sensor glass. The glass is typically held in place by a small retaining ring or adhesive. Use a plastic pry tool to carefully lift it out. Do not scratch the sensor underneath.
Step 5 — Clean the sensor area. Use isopropyl alcohol and a cotton swab to clean any residue from the sensor housing before installing the new glass.
Step 6 — Install the new sensor glass. Press the new glass into the housing. Ensure it sits flush and level.
Step 7 — Reassemble and test. Reattach the bottom shell and reinstall the battery. Power on and verify the downward sensor is active and error-free in the app. Test hover stability at low altitude.

- Avoid touching the sensor glass surface with bare fingers — fingerprints reduce infrared transmission
- If the sensor error persists after glass replacement, the sensor module itself may be damaged
- Clean the sensor glass regularly with a soft cloth to maintain accurate readings
