Mavic Air 2 USB Port Board and IMU Module Replacement Guide
The Mavic Air 2 has two commonly replaced internal components: the USB port board and the IMU (Inertial Measurement Unit) navigation sensor module. The USB port board handles charging and data transfer, while the IMU provides flight attitude and stability data. This guide covers how to diagnose and replace both components.
USB Port Board — Symptoms of Failure
- Drone does not charge when connected via USB-C
- Computer does not recognize the drone when connected
- USB port physically damaged or loose
- Charging indicator does not light up
IMU Module — Symptoms of Failure
- "IMU error" warning in the app
- IMU calibration fails repeatedly
- Drone drifts significantly in flight

Tools You'll Need
- Phillips screwdriver (PH000)
- Plastic pry tool
- Tweezers
- Replacement USB port board and/or IMU module
- Clean, well-lit workspace
USB Port Board Replacement (SKU00100)
Step 1 — Power off and remove the battery.
Step 2 — Remove the rear shell. The USB port is located on the rear of the drone. Unscrew the rear shell screws and carefully separate the shell.
Step 3 — Disconnect the USB board cable. The USB board connects to the main board via a small flex cable. Disconnect it carefully.
Step 4 — Remove the USB board. Unscrew the 2 mounting screws and lift the board out.
Step 5 — Install the new USB board. Seat the new board, secure with screws, and reconnect the flex cable.
Step 6 — Reassemble and test. Reattach the shell. Connect the drone to a charger and confirm charging begins.
IMU Module Replacement (SKU00101)
Step 1 — Power off and remove the battery.
Step 2 — Remove the top or bottom shell to access the IMU module location inside the drone body.
Step 3 — Disconnect the IMU cable. The IMU connects to the flight controller via a flex cable. Disconnect it carefully.
Step 4 — Remove the IMU module. Unscrew the mounting screws and lift the module out. Note its orientation — the IMU must be installed in the correct direction.
Step 5 — Install the new IMU module. Seat the new module in the correct orientation. Secure with screws and reconnect the cable.
Step 6 — Reassemble and calibrate. Reattach the shell. Power on and run IMU calibration from the app before flying.
Tips
- Always run IMU calibration after replacing the IMU module — the new module needs to be calibrated to your specific drone
- Place the drone on a flat, level surface during IMU calibration for accurate results
- If both USB and IMU issues appeared after a crash, inspect both components before reassembly
